The Greatest Surfing Lesson

Bali, January 2017

I started the year making promise that I will do something new every month this year. So, the pick for January was surfing.

I still remember how nervous I was the night before. I prayed and asked God for good weather after reading that forecast was raining the next morning.

Woke up with cloudy (but not raining) weather. So, I walked to the beach, met my coach and went for the lesson.

Surprisingly, I did pretty well. 40 mins into the 2-hours lesson, my coach encouraged me to go deeper. I did not dare, so I opted to continue practising from the same spot. (Note: this was OK, if I am not ready, don’t force it).

One surprising thing through the lesson was how my coach highlighted the importance to learn how to fall as I learnt how to surf. I will definitely fall and learning how to fall well is so important for my own safety. Are you aware that falling is a skill to be practiced?

The moment I finished my lesson, it was pouring. That’s when I knew God did want me to take this lesson.

In life, we will also definitely fall. Have you practiced falling well and falling forward?
