How to win when you lose?

I wanted a promotion and have been working on it for the past few months. Last week, I had a conversation with my manager who shared a different perspective. He pointed out that I need to demonstrate managerial competency.

I left the room feeling sad and disappointed, emotions I associate with “losing”.

How do these emotions serve me? They inform me on my state of mind then I get to choose what I want to do with the data point.

I choose recalibration of perspective. How this looks like for me?

(1) dedicating time to hear from the Lord on what He has in store for me

(2) speaking to a mentor to hear a different perspective

Listening and reflecting on diverse perspectives give me a fresh vision and new strategy / game plan. It helps me to accept the fact and followed by ability to move forward.

I call the new vision as a win because this will help me to get closer to my goal.

How would you define a “win” and is there any part of the story you relate to?
